Douglas works particularly for commercial clients and other advisers in the area of taxation, company law, property and borrowing. He has advised in particular in the areas of business acquisitions and sales, commercial property transactions, the incorporation of sole trades, joint ventures, shareholders agreements, corporate reorganisations, family succession, share redemptions, EIIS scheme documentation, facility letters and security including dealings with NAMA and in Revenue audits, Revenue Appeals, and Voluntary Disclosure involving the Revenue Commissioners.

He currently lectures the Institute of Taxation Part 3 course Professional Advice, Tax Audits & Ethics module and has lectured for two years for the Tax & Estate Planning module for the Institute of Bankers. He has also tutored and lectured for the Law Society of Ireland. As former winner of the International Negotiations Competition he has been a frequent judge of the Irish student negotiations tournament. Prior to joining Shields Sadleir LLP, he trained in general practice working in the areas of property, probate and litigation before moving to specialise in tax in Grant Thornton, Dublin and then in the area of tax and commercial law in Cork city law firms.
